Sporting Gijon 1 Getafe 2: Sarabia seals first away win of 2015-16

Getafe secured their first away victory in La Liga this season by scoring twice in two second-half minutes to win 2-1 at Sporting Gijon on Monday.

The visitors only had two points from their first eight matches on the road in 2015-16, but came from behind to move up to 13th in the table and open up a five-point cushion over Sporting, who stay in the bottom three.

Sporting had taken a 16th-minute lead when on-loan Roma forward Antonio Sanabria netted his sixth league goal of the season with a simple finish from Miguel Angel Guerrero s cut-back.

It looked like Getafe s chances of a comeback were over when Pedro Leon struck the foot of the post with a second-half penalty after Stefan Scepovic had been barged in the back by Jorge Mere six yards from goal.

Premier League 2018-19: The best second-place finishes in history

Liverpool fans must be wondering what more their team could have done after they picked up 97 points and still did not win the Premier League, yet the Reds are not alone in coming up just short in a title race despite performing superbly.

Jurgen Klopp s side won 30 of their 38 matches and lost just once, only to miss out on the title by one point as Pep Guardiola s Manchester City retained the trophy on Sunday.

Liverpool s 97-point haul is the best accrued by a team that has finished second in the Premier League s 20-club era.

But how does it compare to other runners-up in Europe s major leagues, who racked up the points but still finished without winners medals?

1 Liverpool became the first team in top-flight history to win as many as 30 games an…

Toure wins Africa´s best player of 2011

Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure has been awarded the 2011 African Player of the Year at a ceremony in Ghana s capital, Accra, on Thursday.

The Manchester City player, who has had an impressive season, edged out Mali s Seydou Keita and Andre Ayew of Ghana to clinch the coveted football award of the continent.

Keita, who plays for Spanish giants Barcelona, came second leaving the youngest contender Ayew of Marseille with the second runners-up spot.

Toure, during the year under review, helped City win the English FA Cup by scoring the final goal against Stoke City.

After leaving Barcelona, Toure has become one of the most valuable players at the club with his impeccable ball control, recovery and his intelligent reading of the game.

He was also…

NFL Best Bets and Player Props for Week 17: J.J. Watt Cashes In

The Week 17 prop card is complete, and I’ve added two more value-laced plays using splits/matchup and contract incentives as the main point of handicapping. Let’s make some money with my NFL prop picks ahead of Sunday’s kickoff.

NFL Underdogs: NFL Odds, Picks and Predictions Week 15

Last week was Armageddon for NFL underdogs, with just three point spread pups managing to cover.

That’s bad news for a guy who writes a weekly picks column titled “NFL Underdogs” (I escaped with a 1-2 ATS record). But while my fortunes were skewed, others basked in the chalky glow of those favorite-friendly results.

One such person plays in a pick’em pool I’ve taken part in for years now. Username “JKay” topped the leaderboard with a perfect 14 for 14 in their NFL ATS picks last week, including singling out the three lonely underdogs who cashed in. That’s what impressed me most.

I celebrated this miracle on Twitter and while most folks gave it a like and went on their way, a few turds shot down…

Joe Burrow MNF Spotlight: No Chase, No Problem for Burrow vs Browns

Week 8 of the 2022 NFL season wraps up on Halloween with a Monday Night Football game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Browns should be scared of quarterback Joe Burrow coming into this holiday showdown, as he appears to be rounding into the form that brought his team to a Super Bowl last year. Like a kid with candy after a trick-or-treating haul, I’ve separated my favorite NFL player props wagers from the rest, only I’m willing to share. Here are my favorite Joe Burrow props for Monday, October 31.

Also, be sure to check out Jason Logan’s Browns vs. Bengals betting preview as well as Josh Inglis’ player prop picks for Monday Night Football.

Packers vs Giants Odds, Picks, and Predictions for MNF: G-Men Full of Value

There is a pair of Monday Night Football games in Week 14 odds, including a showdown between the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants. While the Packers have won three straight in the NFL odds, the Giants are coming off a bye and have won their last two contests themselves.

MNF odds opened with the Packers as 6.5-point road favorites, with the Over/Under listed at 37 for this prime-time clash in the Meadowlands. Can the Pack keep rolling, or is this too many points to spot a .500 team on the road?

I let you know with my best free NFL picks for Packers vs. Giants on Monday, December 11.

Additionally, we’re zeroing in on Green Bay’s quarterback with a look at Jordan Love odds as well. Be sure to also check out our three favorite Packers vs. Giants p…

Indianapolis Colts Odds, Predictions & Season Preview for 2024: Richardson's Rise

We got a “movie trailer” version of the Indianapolis Colts under Anthony Richardson last season.

The rookie quarterback led the Colts to a 2-2 record as the starter before a shoulder injury in Week 5 folded his first year in the pros. In that short glimpse, Richardson proved potent as a dual-threat QB, especially for those of us taking his “touchdown anytime” odds (he scored four TDs).

But like most movie trailers, we didn’t get a complete picture and were left to speculate on the quality of the full film. Is Richardson & Co. a blockbuster for NFL bettors or pretty much every Terminator movie after T2: Judgement Day? Awesome trailers. Crap movies.

Get the popcorn ready. Here’s my Indianapolis Colts 2024 b…

Thomas Tuchel feeling festive even as Chelsea look to weather harsh winter

Whatever happens when Chelsea visit Aston Villa on Sunday evening, Thomas Tuchel is bound to be in more of a festive mood than he was last year. “I’m very confident that I will survive Christmas with my job this year,” Tuchel said, thinking back to Paris Saint-Germain axing him on Christmas Eve 12 months ago. “We are in a fine place. We are not happy with the results we had in the home games: Burnley, Everton and Manchester United. But we are confident. We are competitive.”

The German’s spirits were high after Chelsea set up a Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham by winning 2-0 at Brentford on Wednesday night. After a week of fretting over positive Covid tests, suddenly the air felt a little lighter. Tuchel had seen Chelsea k…
