VAR ‘over-reffed’ the moment – Sean Dyche unhappy with disallowed Everton goal

Everton boss Sean Dyche fumed at the decision to rule out Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s 51st-minute goal in their 2-1 Premier League loss at Tottenham.

Spurs were two up inside 18 minutes after close-range finishes by Richarlison and Son Heung-min but were not at their best and could have conceded at the start of the second half.

Calvert-Lewin rifled home after Andre Gomes had won back possession from Emerson Royal, but VAR Michael Oliver told referee Stuart Attwell to review the incident and he disallowed the strike after Gomes was adjudged to have caught the Tottenham full-back on his ankle.

More drama was to follow as Gomes eventually reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute before substitute Arnaut Danjuma hit the crossbar in the dying seconds, with goalkeeper Gugl…

RB Leipzig 2-1 Zenit: Sabitzer stunner seals comeback win

Excellent second-half goals from Konrad Laimer and Marcel Sabitzer saw RB Leipzig claim an impressive 2-1 Champions League win over Zenit.

Yaroslav Rakitskiy opened the scoring after 25 minutes for Sergei Semak s visitors, thumping in from long range.

Leipzig s star striker Timo Werner made way at half-time but Julian Nagelsmann s men were revitalised and the influential Laimer got them back on terms.

A picture-book winner from Sabitzer followed in the 59th minute, lifting the Bundesliga side to the top of Group G ahead of the later kick-off between Benfica and Lyon.

Laimer s speculative first-minute strike was pushed onto the crossbar by scampering Zenit goalkeeper Mikhail Kerzhakov.

The visitors began to find room on the break and, after Sebasti…

Scotland must aspire for Nations League success to ´feel the love´, says Robertson

Andy Robertson insists that Scotland must right their wrongs from a dismal Euro 2024 campaign to ensure they feel the love again from supporters.

Robertson, who led Scotland in Germany, was powerless to stop their group stage exit as their wait for knockout football at an international tournament went on.

After surpassing George Young s record for the most caps as Scotland captain in June, the Liverpool full-back will wear the armband once again for their two Nations League games.

Steve Clarke s side welcome Poland to Hampden Park on Thursday before travelling to Lisbon to face Portugal three days later.

The summer was a low for all of us, Robertson said. But we have to move on from it. We have to be positive, otherwise it s pointless being here. We h…

Roma want Januzaj

AS Roma are interested in signing Adnan Januzaj from Real Sociedad, according to Sky in Italy.

Having joined their youth setup from that of Anderlecht back in 2011, Januzaj started his professional career with Manchester United, but he wasn t able to prove himself capable of playing regularly in a team striving to keep their place at the very top of world football at the time. He spent some time on loan, first at Borussia Dortmund and then Sunderland, before joining Sociedad in a €8.5 million deal in the summer of 2017.

This season, the 24-year-old Belgian made 13 club appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and laying on as many assists.

Roma contacted Liverpool to ask about the possibility of a loan deal for Xherdan Shaqiri last week but the Prem…

Marseille 0-0 Feyenoord (2-3 agg): Dutch side hold nerve to reach Europa Conference League final

Feyenoord clung on to a first-leg Europa Conference League semi-final lead to progress to the final after holding Marseille to a 0-0 draw at Stade Velodrome for a 3-2 aggregate victory.

The Eredivisie outfit weathered an everything-but-the-kitchen sink performance in attack from their hosts amid a frequently raucous atmosphere in Provence to make history.

It takes the Dutch side to a first major European final appearance since 2002, when they defeated Borussia Dortmund to claim what was then the UEFA Cup.

But for Jorge Sampaoli, it will be a draw that tastes like defeat as Les Olympiens missed the chance for a shot at their first bit of continental silverware since the 2005 Intertoto Cup.
